In a late night chat on the Periscope app at approximately 11:25 pm PST, celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart made an impromptu announcement to those following him on the live streaming social broadcasting app owned by Twitter.

The photographer, broadcasting live from his hotel room following his presentation at KelbyOne’s Photoshop World at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, made the announcement before officially announcing it.

When asked by a viewer if he had any big shoots coming up, an exuberant Cowart proclaimed “Yes! I have a HUGE photoshoot coming up and I haven’t even been able to talk about it, but why not talk about it here? I’m going to make a more formal announcement soon, but I’m going to be photographing the Pope.  That’s right…THE Pope.”

“I’m going to be traveling with the Pope in September when he comes to the United States for the very first time. So this is a historic opportunity and photoshoot and I cannot wait to get to meet and get to photograph the Pope. And I’m going to be photographing him during his entire visit from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia to New York City. So it is truly probably my biggest and most I don’t know, my most honored I’ve ever been to do something. So yeah, I’ll get to travel with and photograph the Pope in September along with my friend Branden Harvey. Branden Harvey will be doing his thing and I’ll be doing my thing. It’ll be awesome. I can’t wait.”

“So yeah, I’m traveling with the Pope. I don’t even know how these things happen. Life is weird. But that is happening. That is going to happen. So thank you for asking. That’s the first time I have said that publicly so I will do an official blog post and official announcement on that soon to fill you in with more information.”

Also during the impromptu chat, which drew dozens of people, Cowart talked about speaking on stage before his idol, Jay Maisel. He said with a laugh that upon leaving the stage, Maisel, 84, hugged him and said “How am I supposed to follow that you little motherf***er?”

He added, “So I got called a ‘mother effer’ by Jay Maisel and it made my day.”

It’s safe to say that this is one story Cowart will NOT be sharing with Pope Francis.

Congrats Jeremy. We know you’ll do a great job as always. What an honor.
